• July 5- Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal were Academy Award nominees for their unforgettable performances in Focus’ all-time biggest hit, Brokeback Mountain (2005), an epic love story. Winner of 3 Academy Awards including Best Director (Ang Lee).
• July 7- A comedy thriller from Joel and Ethan Coen, Burn After Reading (2008) stars George Clooney, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich, Tilda Swinton, Richard Jenkins, and Brad Pitt in a cascading series of darkly hilarious encounters.
• July 12- From Ian McEwan’s best-selling novel, Atonement (2007) spans several decades as a romance changes the course of three lives forever. Nominated for 7 Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actress (Saoirse Ronan).
• July 14 - Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom (2012) tells the story of two 12-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness.
• July 16 - The extraordinary story of one of the world’s greatest living minds, astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, and of two people defying the steepest of odds through love. The Theory of Everything (2014) brought Eddie Redmayne the Best Actor Oscar.
• July 21- The Constant Gardener (2005) sweeps audiences along a man’s emotional and global journey to uncover the truth behind a personal loss and a worldwide conspiracy. Rachel Weisz won an Oscar for her performance opposite Ralph Fiennes.
• July 23- From the autobiography of Wladyslaw Szpilman, a Polish Jew who detailed survival during WWII, The Pianist (2002) won 3 Oscars: Best Director (Roman Polanski), Best Actor (Adrien Brody), and Best Adapted Screenplay (Ronald Harwood).
• July 26- Keira Knightley received her first Oscar nomination for director Joe Wright’s Pride & Prejudice (2005), which brought the glorious world of Jane Austen back to the big screen in all its romance, wit, and emotional force.
