Presented and hosted by the National Dance Institute, this workshop will focus on crafting a performance in a short amount of time.
Event Details
Using effective choreography techniques and creative storytelling, participants will experience how the dance movement taught in a class can be transformed into performance material. Participants will be dancing for much of the workshop and should plan accordingly.
Emily Meisner has been with NDI since 2003 as a Master Teaching Artist/Choreographer and is currently the Director of Professional Development. Emily is responsible for training, supporting, and leading NDI’s teaching artists in the development of their teaching practice. She also leads NDI’s Teaching Artist Training initiatives, which include intensive trainings in the NDI pedagogy, as well as professional development workshops and consulting for organizations around the country. Working alongside Jacques d’Amboise, Emily developed the Arts Encounter program, which led to the creation of NDI’s unique early childhood curriculum. In 2016, Emily directed the Event of the Year, Words with Wings: The Power of Poetry. Prior to joining NDI, Emily trained intensively and danced professionally with Boston Ballet Company. She received her undergraduate degree in English literature from Columbia University and went on to receive her master’s in education from Bank Street College. Emily is also the proud mother of a son and a daughter who provide continual inspiration for her work with children.
