The Viennese Opera Ball - the oldest and most prestigious outside of Vienna - will hold its annual celebration for the 64th consecutive year at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City under the auspices of the U.S. Austrian Chamber of Commerce.

Event Details

This year’s Honorary Ambassador will be Somali model, author, actress and social activist Waris Dirie and the Guest of Honor is Italian Bass opera singer Ferruccio Furlanetto. Silvia Frieser, a Vienna native living in New York for the past 19 years, is the President of the Vienna Opera Ball. Jean Shafiroff, author and American philanthropist will chair the ball.

This annual white-tie charity gala is a celebration of transatlantic friendship and intercultural understanding that draws an international audience of diplomats, dignitaries, and professionals from various international corporations.

Guests travel from around the world to dance the waltz with music from Metropolitan Opera singers, Javier Camarena, Rihab Chaieb, Ferruccio Furlanetto, Ailyn Perez, and Michael Schade, and the Divertimento Viennese orchestra, known for its performances at the famous Vienna Philharmonic Ball.

Over 700 guests are expected to attend to watch the debutantes and their escorts. Tickets start at $550 for a deb/escort ticket and rise to $25,000 for a Diamond Tier table. Proceeds will benefit the music therapy program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center with support from Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation for Cancer Research.

Notable attendees of the gala have included: Ban Ki-moon, former Secretary-General of the United Nations; Samantha Power, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations; Archduke Dominik von Habsburg-Lothringen; Archduke Géza von Habsburg; Lauren Bush, Chuck Scarborough; and Stephen Baldwin.
