Description
The Nikolai Kachanov Singers and the Russian Chamber Chorus of New York will perform together for the first time at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.
Event Details
A special program awaits: Morning Birds for chorus, flute, and cello is inspired by the art of Nicholas Roerich and was commissioned by the Nikolai Kachanov Singers chorus. Benevolence, a five-part cantata, is set to the poems of Nicholas Roerich. The program culminates with “Rothko Chapel”. This modern classic masterpiece was composed by Morton Feldman for chorus, viola, and percussion. It is inspired by the paintings of Mark Rothko and the Rothko Chapel in Texas. The musical language of all three compositions differ as greatly as the palettes of Roerich and Rothko, two 20th century masters.
