Camden Chat has new update
1 hour ago Friday Bird Droppings: The O’s take their first trip out of the eastern time zone
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports The Orioles’ second road trip will see a rematch against two teams they already won series against this season. Good morning, Camden Chatters. The 2024 Orioles not only are a good team so far, but they’ve also been remarkably consistent. In their season-opening homestand, they went 4-2. On their first road trip, they went 4-2. In their second homestand, they went 4-2. Keep doing that all year long and very good things will happen. The Orioles now begin their second road trip of the year, and their first one out of the eastern time zone, with another six-game slate. They’ll be facing two familiar opponents in the Royals and Angels, the same two teams they played in the first week of the season in Baltimore. The Orioles won both those series, including two blowout wins over Los Angeles and two wild walkoffs against Kansas City. After this trip, the O’s will already be finished playing against those two clubs this season, before playing a single game against AL East opponents New York, Toronto, and Tampa Bay. The balanced schedule has its quirks. Those two clubs, projected as non-contenders when the season began, have been surprisingly feisty. The Angels have posted a winning record since the O’s plated 24 runs against them in the season’s first two games. And the Royals are an impressive 12-7, making major noise in the weak AL Central. Both teams certainly have the potential to make life difficult for the Orioles these next six games. My prediction? The Orioles will go 4-2. Links Midday Mailbag: Cowser for Rookie of the Year? - BaltimoreBaseball.comThe Orioles have an early Rookie of the Year candidate, and it’s not the guy everyone expected it would be. Nothing wrong with having too many good rookies. Jackson Holliday has struggled in MLB debut so far, but here are three reasons to believe in Orioles prospect - CBSSports.comNot gonna lie, it’s been a rough welcome to the majors for Jackson Holliday. But R.J. Anderson sees enough promising signs in Holliday’s at-bats to indicate a turnaround is on the horizon. Jackson Holliday is 1-for-25, but his father isn’t worried - The Baltimore BannerAnd if all those stats from the previous article don’t convince you, Jackson Holliday’s dad also believes in him. So there’s that. Inside the Orioles clubhouse, where fashion is wide-ranging - The Baltimore SunA bunch of Orioles players have decided to get mullets, but they’ve all agreed not to let Dean Kremer do it because his hair is too perfect as is. These guys know what’s up. Orioles birthdays and history Is today your birthday? Happy birthday! Former Orioles born on April 19 include All-Star closer George Sherrill (47), infielder Willis Otáñez (51), and right-hander Scott Kamieniecki (60). On this date in 1996, the Orioles suffered a 26-7 defeat to begin a series in Texas. They were only trailing 10-7 until the bottom of the eighth, when the Rangers hung a 16-spot in one inning, which went single, walk, walk, double, sac fly, home run, single, single, single, walk, single, walk, walk, walk, walk, sac fly, walk, home run, groundout. Rangers leadoff man Darryl Hamilton batted three times in that inning alone, and O’s infielder Manny Alexander mopped up by facing the last seven hitters. Embarrassingly, 26 runs isn’t even the most the O’s have ever given up in a game to the Rangers, but we don’t need to get into that now. Random Orioles game of the day And now, back despite popular demand, it’s the Random Orioles game of the day. As a reminder of how this works, I use a random number generator to pick a year between 1954 and 2023, then take a look at the Orioles game that season on today’s date. Our random number is...1979. On April 19, 1979, the Orioles picked up a 6-3 victory at Yankee Stadium, thanks to a complete game by Jim Palmer, the 180th of his Hall of Fame career. The Yankees scored three runs in the first two innings before Palmer kept them off the board for the final seven, allowing only four baserunners in that span. Ken Singleton reached base four times and drove in two runs for the Orioles. The victory snapped a six-game losing streak for the Orioles and kicked off a nine-game winning streak, helping them overcome a sluggish 3-8 start to eventually win 102 games and the AL East.

Maryland lawmakers passed a bill this session that expands the list of crimes with which a child between 10 and 12 years old can be charged. The Maryland Office of the Public Defender has been vocally critical about the move, which they say could put more young kids in court.
