Description
Shepard Hall, named after Edward Morse Shepard (class of 1869), was designed by George Browne Post in a competition for the best design for CCNY's new campus. It is designed in Collegiate Gothic style which made it one of the first buildings in the U.S. of this particular architectural style. It sits on the original two by two block land area owned by the City College on their uptown campus. The groundbreaking ceremony took place in 1903. When the building was completed in 1907 a grand opening was held at which time Mark Twain was the principle speaker.Get to know Shepard Hall
The campus is alive with student activity.City College fields 16 varsity teams that compete in NCAA Division III – and students work out in an equipment rich fitness center and socialize in more than 100 student clubs
