Description

Join us and The Studio Museum in Harlem in Harlem for a multidisciplinary Teaching and Learning Workshop focused on using culturally-based art and tools to talk about racial and social justice in the classroom.

Event Details

Educators will experiment with creating narratives through photography, graphic novel writing, and movement in response to the CCCADI exhibition, Race, Myth, Art, and Justice, and artwork in the Studio Museum's permanent collection.

The afternoon’s workshops will focus on using graphic novels to explore social justice and build literacy skills and activating oral histories as a primary resource in the classroom. Participants will also learn about ways to incorporate the stories of New York-based educators and parents who are at the forefront of activist movements and education reform into their curriculums. Lastly, there will be a movement workshop where educators will work collaboratively to respond to images and text using their bodies.

Educators of all disciplines and age groups are welcome. This Teaching and Lear ing Workshop is free and light refreshments will be provided. Space is limited and available on a first-come-first-served basis. For accessibility information, please contact Executive Assistant Nefertiti Pat Arthur at 212.307.7420.
