Event Details

The CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute's December's forum commemorates the 1969 White House Conference on Food, Nutrition and Health. The Conference paved the way for the first major expansion of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). What has happened to SNAP in the intervening half century? What forces have driven its growth? How is it faring in the age of Trump? ? These questions and others will provide the basis for a larger discussion of the December issue of the American Journal of Public Health (AJPH). A special section of this edition focuses on SNAP and we are fortunate to have a few of its authors join us for a discussion. Editor of this section, Marion Nestle, will provide an overview, and authors of five of the articles will comment. Speakers include Mariana Chilton of Drexel University, Nevin Cohen and Nick Freudenberg of the CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute, Brynne Keith-Jennings of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, and Jennifer Pomeranz of New York University. Janet Poppendieck of the CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute will moderate.
